The Challenge
Before implementing Argos, The Citadel relied on outdated reporting processes that created significant operational strain. Data was pulled from the Operational Data Store with limited confidence in its accuracy. The rigid, one-size-fits-all outputs made it difficult to customize or validate reports, and any changes carried risk and skepticism among users.
Report delivery also lacked visibility. Teams were constantly emailing static reports, overloading inboxes and servers, with no way to track engagement or confirm whether the data was even being used. Real-time data was not available, and constant requests to rerun and resend reports only added to the workload.
“We were asking ourselves: Are people opening these reports? Are they using them? There was no way to know.”
Even more critical were the challenges in Financial Aid, particularly around managing ROTC award invoicing. With over 400 award recipients and different billing processes between branches, any error meant an invoice would be rejected. They then had to manually search for discrepancies to resolve issues, creating inefficiencies and confusion for students, instructors, and departments.
These challenges were compounded by limited support and inconsistent guidance from their previous system, making it difficult to resolve issues with confidence.
The Solution
With Argos, The Citadel modernized its data approach from the ground up. Dashboards now allow users to interact with data in real time, filtering, customizing, and exporting exactly what they need, when they need it. This shift moved the institution away from relying on static files toward instantly accessible, actionable data.
Instead of flooding inboxes with repetitive reports, The Citadel built dashboards that provide leadership with direct access to relevant information, removing guesswork and inefficiencies. In Financial Aid, Argos enabled the team to break down ROTC invoicing into layers tailored to specific billing requirements. This brought greater clarity, improved tracking, and automated processes that run reliably without constant manual oversight. Students are now more informed, instructors have better visibility, and all departments work from a shared understanding.
“Argos has made these processes work so well that we’re able to walk away from them and trust that they’ll run on their own.”
On top of these improvements, the responsive and knowledgeable support from Evisions has made a tremendous difference. The Citadel now has customer support they can rely on, adding trust and confidence throughout their data processes.
“Every question is validated, and solutions are found. I feel very connected to the Evisions team, and the rest of the team would agree.”
The Results
Argos gave The Citadel more than just better reports. It gave them control, confidence, and time. With real-time dashboards, cleaner data, and responsive support, departments across campus have shifted from manual execution to strategic insight.
- Interactive dashboards replaced static reports and email overload
- ROTC invoicing is now automated, consistent, and hands-free
- Teams across departments access real-time, trusted data
- Streamlined workflows free up time for strategic work
- Evisions support provides guidance they can trust
- A custom “Fund Report” dashboard offers instant insights, from trends to student-level detail
“The implementation of Argos has been a significant step forward for data governance, institutional transparency, and collaboration. By providing faculty chairpersons, deans, and functional area directors with direct access to reliable data, we are fostering a culture of democratized data driven decision making, that strengthens accountability while advancing the mission and goals of the college.”
“Argos has made us efficient. Everything we build saves time, which gives us more bandwidth to analyze and make decisions that improve the campus as a whole.”
The Future
With Argos at the center of their data ecosystem, The Citadel is focused on strengthening its culture of data governance and collaboration. They’re moving away from redundant processes and toward a centralized, trusted source of truth.
“Our goal is to get new data in the hands of decision-makers. Argos helps us put that data in the right hands, at the right time.”
