Argos Web Viewer, or AWV, will no longer be supported or offered in new versions of Argos after June 30, 2027. Argos X becomes the long-term web experience for Argos. 

For most institutions, making that move takes one checkbox in the MAPS Configuration Tool. Your DataBlocks, reports, users, and permissions come with you, and more than 430 institutions have already done it. 

Argos X starts from the environment you already have 

Argos X is not a new implementation. It runs on the Argos environment your team built, including your: 

• DataBlocks
• Reports and dashboards
• Users and groups
• MAPS permissions
• Institutional reporting logic

There is no rebuild step. There is no parallel security model to maintain. An administrator who knows Argos already knows the foundation Argos X runs on, and end users open the same reports they open today. 

Argos X also has full feature parity with AWV, so nothing your users depend on gets left behind in the move. 

What Argos X adds 

Parity is the starting point, not the reason to move. Argos X gives your campus a browser-based experience built for people who are not report developers: 

• Pivot Mode. Drag rows, columns, and values into place and get instant aggregation across dimensions. An analyst can answer a follow-up question in the browser instead of filing a request and waiting.
• Dashboard Designer. Build dashboards in the browser, then embed them in your campus portal or open them on a phone. Reports reach people who never logged into AWV. 
• Explore data directly. When a number looks wrong, the person who spotted it can check it. Users filter across multiple columns, reorder what they see, and export to Excel or CSV without waiting on the next scheduled run. A financial aid director validates a count on the spot, and that one-off report request never reaches your IT team. 

Argos X is also what makes Data Agent available to your institution. Data Agent brings AI-assisted analysis to your governed reports & DataBlocks with the SQL logic, thinking and sources visible for transparency. Data Agent is available as a separate subscription with a flexible licensing model that lets institutions provide users with the level of access that fits their work. Institutions running Argos X are the ones positioned to add it. 

This is also where Argos development is going. New capability lands in Argos X. 

How to enable Argos X

1. Confirm your versions

Argos X requires Argos and MAPS 6.12.1 or newer. Administrators can check the MAPS Suite Hardware and Software Requirements, or the MAPS and Argos Knowledge Bases, for details. 

If you are on an earlier version and would like assistance with the update process, submit a Support ticket. Support can review your environment and help you plan the upgrade path before you enable anything.

2. Check the box in MAPS Config

Log in to the MAPS Configuration Tool, select Server from the navigation pane, and check Enable Argos X support.

3. Launch it from theeLauncher

Return to the MAPS eLauncher in your browser. An Argos X button appears under the Argos application tab. Select it and Argos X opens in a new tab. 

That is the whole setup. 

Start now, not in 2027 

Enabling Argos X early gives you time to test familiar reports, share training resources, and bring users over gradually. It also means your campus stops waiting on a better web experience it could already be using.
